Course Description:

English IV continues the study of literature. Trade novels and short stories appropriate to the themes of the units will support the textbook. Students will be exposed to both fiction and non-fiction. The study of language in use – grammar, mechanics, sentence structure, and writing will be incorporated as well. There will be regular assessments to ensure progress and/or needs.

Course Objectives: The student will demonstrate the ability to:

  • Read, analyze, and write responses to short and long pieces of literature
  • Identify literary elements in all types of literature
  • Summarize literature
  • Make personal, cultural and societal connections to literature

Grading:

30% Participation

20% Homework

25% Assignments in class
